Chisomo Daka is the Founder, CEO and CTO at Daka Space Technologies (DST) LTD which is a Malawian space technology startup founded 0n 29th August, 2022. Chisomo also works as a Lecturer in Physics at the Malawi University of Science & Technology (MUST). He graduated from the University of Malawi in 2015 with a Bachelor of Education Science (Physics & Maths). As of today, he holds an MSc. Physics degree from LPU in India. Chisomo is certified by the ITU and ITSO in Satellite Communications and Regulations for Africa and Arab regions. He’s is also certified in Space Mission Design and Operations by École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EFPL).
Daka Space Technologies (DST) is a space-based technology company that was solely founded by Chisomo Daka on 29th August 2022 in Blantyre which is the commercial city of Malawi. Chisomo’s inspiration for starting a business in the space exploration industry originates from his prior experience in India at Lovely Professional University (LPU) where he was part of a student research project that was aimed at developing an innovative cube satellite (CubeSat) for quantifying and mapping trajectories of space debris under 5cm in length within the Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Chisomo was thus tasked with leading the Payload sub-system of the CubeSat project. Among other things, the payload sub-system team was challenged to formulate new mathematical equations for defining and calibrating the laser ranging and detection capabilities of a customized pulsed laser for space debris detection in LEO orbit. In addition to his payload team, Chisomo also worked closely with the satellite ground station and communications sub-system teams to help with his unmatched experience in radio frequency (RF) systems, antenna design, simulation and fabrication techniques, and radio & computer network deployment.
